WNBA Finals Game 1: Buzzer Beater Lifts the Sparks Over the Lynx
The WNBA Finals have started with the Los Angeles Sparks taking home court advantage yesterday in Minnesota as the Sparks defeated the Lynx on Veteran, Alana Beard’s game winning buzzer beater 78-76 in front of a sellout crowd. Coming into the series, the expectations are for the series to go the distance but the Los Angeles Sparks may have other plans if they can pull out another victory tomorrow night in Minnesota to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the best of 5 series. During the regular season, the Lynx won the grueling series 2-1.
Game 1 of the WNBA Finals was close the entire 40 minutes with neither team leading more than 6 points. The first game of the series is usually a ‘feel out’ game for the teams to recognize any changes from regular season play, feel out the refs… Will the refs allow more aggressive play, less, etc. The two teams are very familiar with each other’s styles of play, so it’s about which team can execute their game plan the best for 3 of the 5 games to claim the WNBA Championship trophy!
The Sparks seemed to get into a little foul trouble during the first half of Game 1, then flipped the script in the second half by playing more aggressive on the offensive end than the Lynx to earn trips to the charity stripe early in the final quarter.
Lindsay Whalen and Sylvia Fowles, were the steady and smooth veterans for the Lynx that kept them in the game during the first half while All-Stars, Seimone Augustus and Maya Moore struggled with their offense in the first half. Moore would find her offensive game in the second half scoring all of her 18 points to join teammates Whalen and Fowles whom both contributed 18 points for the game. Seimone Augustus was silent with just 6 points on a non-aggressive 2-5 shooting from the field.
League MVP, Nneka Ogwumike scored 19 points while sharp shooter, Kristi Toliver also added a quiet 19 points for the Sparks who received Cannamazing energy from Candace Parker, making her WNBA Finals debut after 8 seasons tossing in 14 points, 3 assists and 1 block. The ‘big 3’ scored and played ‘big” for the Sparks all game, but the Sparks got a boost from their bench which out played the Lynx’s bench behind the play of Chelsea Gray and Jantel Lavender. Chelsea came into the game and forced action logging 12 points, 4 assists and 2 blocks with Jantel Lavender making her mark with timely shots on 4-6 shooting from the field for the LA Sparks.
Alana Beard, a steady veteran known for her lock down defense, made two outstanding defensive plays down the stretch of the game before capping off a solid game with the game winner from the corner at the buzzer!
Game 2 of the WNBA Finals will be played Tuesday, October 11th at 8:00 p.m. EST on ESPN 2.
How To Love A Republican
During an election year, Jerry Mayer picked the perfect time to release his ninth theatrical production, How To Love A Republican which premiered at the Santa Monica Playhouse in Santa Monica, California on Saturday, October 1, 2016 for a lengthy run through December. Sunday matinee starts at 3 p.m. at the cozy 56 year old Cannamazing theater!
How To Love A Republican is a five member cast production about a Catholic Republican husband, Tim McCoy (Dan Gilvezan) his loyal Democratic wife, Ruth McCoy (Rachel Galper) their single undeclared political party daughter, Margie McCoy (Elizabeth Ellson) and two political candidates one, a Democrat, Lenny Klein (Adam Mondschein) the other Republican, Mark Bliss (Matthew Wrather).
Margie is the perfect devoted daughter to her parents who have been married since their college days, but have had division in the bedroom over the years during election time. Margie has always witnessed the verbal arguments about politics and developed a very anti-political attitude in her own way. Margie who owns a condominium has to move back home for a few days while contractors work on her condo.
It just so happens to be election time, so her parents are in political battle mode while sleeping in separate bedrooms.
Tim supports Republican, Mark Bliss while of course Ruth supports Democratic candidate, Lenny Klein.
Well, the plot thickens as the parents try to persuade Margie to join their perspective political party by introducing her to each candidate.
Margie makes it clear she is not interested in politics because of the arguments she witnessed from her parents over the years. She actually dates both candidates and has history with Lenny from her childhood summer camp days. Spending time with both candidates gave Margie an eye opening vision about politics!
Lenny Klein is an all-american guy who loves sports and Dodger dogs! His counterpart, Mark Bliss likes theater and lobster! One of the candidates has a deep dark secret that he reveals to Margie... Which guy will win Margie's heart?
Jerry Mayer does an excellent job referring to wars through politics and refers to a number of presidents actions during the 90 minute comedy. The comic relief throughout the production keeps it fresh and moving without any stale moments.
There were several bomb shells during the theatrical production, but none more shocking than when Margie announces she is NOT a registered voter plus she is enlisting in the Army!
What happens after that YOU must go see yourself at the Santa Monica Playhouse in Santa Monica, California.
How To Love A Republican was directed by Chris DeCarlo. Chris has directed 5 previous plays by Jerry Mayer. Chris did a Cannamazing job on number 6 for Jerry!
Thumbs up for How To Love A Republican! The cast was fabulous!
You will enjoy it!

Cannabis World Congress Business Exposition Los Angeles Review
The Cannabis World Congress Business Exposition concluded Friday at the Los Angeles Convention Center with another Cannamazing turnout of people supporting this booming industry! Cannabis companies from all over the world presented their products and services to the well-attended Cannabis business event. Most of the workshops were filled to capacity, while the KEYNOTES were standing room only with over flow rooms to accommodate the attendees.
Keynote speakers were Montel Williams, inspirational speaker and advocate for patients worldwide and Ted Chung, Businessman also Co-Founder of MERRY JANE.
Singer/Songwriter, Cannabis advocate, Melissa Etheridge was the guest moderator for a session on CTE, Concussion & CBD featuring a panel of retired professional athletes, doctors and research specialists.
Montel Williams owned the stage as he engaged the attendees with his address about this miraculous plant, this miraculous medicine! Montel emphasized the importance of producing the best organic cannabis to the patients while also keeping it real talking about the popular “dab scene”. Montel made a gesture about his 82 year old mother “Isn’t dabbing!” Indicating it is important for the Cannabis industry to continue to produce this medicine in different forms safely for patients to benefit and heal their bodies.
Another key issue Montel addressed was the disparity in diversity in the Cannabis Industry. Over 98% of the attendees at the CWCBE were Caucasian. Montel indicated he hopes the industry will diversify more soon.
The much anticipated address by Ted Chung was short, innovative and direct to the attendees which included a Power Point presentation of his vision for MERRY JANE. With Ted’s business knowledge, relationships globally, relationships in the entertainment industry and trusted relationships with artists give instant hope to the Cannabis Industry community that mainstream corporations will start to “do business” with the Cannabis Industry.
A Cannamazing announcement in the Cannabis Industry at the CWCBE was AFLAC joining the Cannabis Industry to provide insurance benefits to Cannabis businesses with 3 or more employees… This business venture was spearheaded by Ted Chung’s team at MERRY JANE!
AFLAC plans to roll out an aggressive marketing campaign to the Cannabis Industry… Quack, quack!
During the session Melissa Etheridge moderated discussing CTE, concussions and CBD, the attendees heard first hand from former professional athletes who gave their testimony.
Cannabis in the sports world will have its challenges because of the endorsements and sponsors. The “brand” cannot be tarnished in any manner because the “brand” may lose sponsors… MONEY!
However, it is promising to know the professional teams are recognizing the research behind Cannabis and will continue open dialogue amongst the player’s unions to make sure everything is in the best interest of the players to keep the “brand” ALIVE!
ALIVE is the perfect word for the Cannabis World Congress Business Exposition Team. The CWCBE Team was alive and dedicated for another Cannamazing year in Los Angeles!
The Cannabis World Congress Business Exposition comes to New York, New York annually in June and travels to Los Angeles, California annually in September.
See you in 2017!
